FAQ

Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions page! Well, actually, it's really just a guide for you to get around . . . so you don't incessantly keep emailing me about trivial things (or post insanely stupid comments on my Cbox). =P Have a read! And if you have a question that's not answered here, feel free to email me about it!

Please note though, if you email me about a question that's already answered here, I will not reply to you -- or perhaps I will, with a simple, "Please refer to the FAQ page.". I realise this seems rude, but I don't think it's necessary for me to answer questions that I've already painstakingly typed up for that purpose right here . . . If YOU chose not to read this FAQ, that's YOUR problem . . . =(

Where are the media files hosted?

Very soon all files on JPB will be hosted at RapidShare.COM. That is where JPB's Premium account resides. Hopefully, all files will be up and running on RapidShare.com by July, 2007. Please be patient as there are a lot of files to re-upload. Thank you.

How do I download files from RapidShare?

Click on the download link, which will open up a new window. On that page, scroll down and click "FREE". On the next page that opens up, scroll down again. There will be a timer that counts down. Wait for it to count down to "0" (it'll only take a few seconds, depending on how many times you've downloaded before). When it hits "0", enter the character code you'll see and a DIRECT-DOWNLOAD link will be revealed. Right-click and "Save Target As.." as normal. And viola, you're downloading the file!

Does RapidShare have any restrictions?

Yes, if you're a "FREE" customer (which I think everyone is =P). You can NOT use DOWNLOAD MANAGERS. So, no resume. You can only download one file at a time -- don't have two or more downloads going at the same time, it won't work. Download one after the other, and so on. You can also ONLY download ROUGHLY 30MB AN HOUR! For instance, if a PV was around 40MB, that obviously exceeds 30MB, hence if you download that 40MB PV, you'll have to wait ONE HOUR before RapidShare will let you download anything else. Understand? Just download 30MB worth of stuff one hour, go off, come back an hour later, download 30MB of more stuff, go off, come back an hour later, and so on . . .

Sometimes I can only download 10MB an hour from RapidShare! What's up with that?

I actually think if it's your first time downloading (or your first time downloading in a while), you're allowed to download 30MB an hour . . . and as time goes on, the more you download within a day/week/month whatever, it decreases . . . from 30MB to 25MB to 20MB to 15MB to 10MB . . . so say you mass downloaded to the hourly limit every hour for several days straight . . . I'm sure it'd decrease your hourly limit down to 10MB. =P And then if you "rest off" it for a couple of days, and begin downloading again, you'll find you're back on that 30MB an hour trip. It's pretty fair, I guess. =P

Help! Help! I can't download anything at all!

Please note, if you were ABLE to download before, and now you're not, it's 'cause you've exceeded the 30MB an hour rule . . . Refer to the question above. BUT, if you can't download a single thing AT ALL, that is, RapidShare tells you something along the lines of you're already downloading something, or that you've downloaded too much, but you haven't -- it means you're using a proxy-server, whether you realise it or not . . . It seems you can't download like everyone else, and you can't, sorry. =( . . . There used to be a two-hour period where RapidShare would allow people on proxy-servers to download, but it seems they're being stingy now, and has disabled said "Happy-Hours" . . . -_- Thus, there is now NO WAY for people on proxy-servers to be able to download from RapidShare, and thus this site . . . incredibly sorry. =(

Help! Some of my files have only partially downloaded!

My biggest guess is that during the download, you were disconnected from the RapidShare server. Check the filesize of what you've downloaded, to the actual filesize I've noted down for that file on this site. It's probably less. If it is, you have been disconnected from the server during your download. The main reason for this? You're probably on slow speed -- that is, dial-up/56k (basically anything less than Cable/DSL). To go online, you need a good stable strong connection . . . speeds lower than Cable/DSL are usually weak and unstable. Therefore, it would be very unwise to try to download big files from servers such as RapidShare without a Download Manager such as GetRight. And, unfortunately, you are not allowed to use any Download Managers when downloading from RapidShare. My solution? If I were you, I wouldn't try downloading any file above, say, 10MB on RapidShare. =( It might just waste your time, as you'll probably just get cut-off leaving you with a partially downloaded file you can't resume. And that's all I can suggest. DAMN RAPIDSHARE FOR TAKING AWAY HAPPY-HOURS. =(

Since some people can't download from RapidShare due to its restrictions against proxy-servers, why do you choose to use it and not YouSendIt or MegaUpload?

Because YouSendIt expires in 25 downloads or 7 days, whichever occurs first. And MegaUpload runs on a server that's equivalent to the speed a snail goes in a volvo in desperate need of fuel in the middle of highway traffic. You get the idea. I prefer not to make people suffer by taking 5 hours to download a 5MB CM (possible exaggeration).

Can I e-mail you about a link that has expired?

Yes, of course! But please make sure that it actually has expired . . . ALL RapidShare links will only expire after 30 days after NO ONE has downloaded from it, which is very unlikely. So make sure the file is actually gone, and not that YOU can't download it ('cause you're on a proxy-server) . . . and please don't email me saying you can't download, but you could before . . . it is very likely that you've just exceeded the "30MB an hour" rule . . . Just try downloading again an hour later. Please don't give me a false alarm. -_- No. This is because I am well aware that the majority of files on the site have expired -- I will be working at getting them all re-uploaded to our RapidShare Premium account by July, 2007. When all JPB files are on RapidShare.com, there will be no need for any re-upload requests due to all files "never" expiring on our paid-for Premium account.

Can I request files for you to upload?

No. There's just too much for me to do, and considering only people who gain access to the multimedia section at JPB Forum are allowed to request, it's unfair on them that some person who hasn't gained access to the mutlimedia section of the forum can just email me and ask for a file. So no more requests.

Will you ever offer performances etc. of NEWS and Kanjani8 like you do for KAT-TUN?

Unlikely. I've never claimed to be an avid NEWS fan, and definitely not an avid Kanjani8 fan. =P At the moment, I think I waste spend enough time and energy on providing you with KAT-TUN videos . . . trust me, though it might look like it's really simple and easy for me to get you these downloads, it's not. =| Re-encoding files takes A LOT of time, especially on a computer as slow as mine. ~_~ At the current time, I'm only going to focus on KAT-TUN, since my future hubby Kazuya belongs to said group. XD The NEWS and Kanjani8 sections will only hold official singles, albums and PVs, thus far.

How come when I download most files, they begin with an underscore (_)?

It's just the way RapidShare decides to "rename" characters that aren't of the "standard" (numbers, underscores and hyphens). If a file is named, for example, "_PV__NEWS_-_Cherish.mpg", then I uploaded it as "[PV] NEWS - Cherish.mpg". Same with "_CM_-_2005.07.02__Akame_-_DDR_with_MARIO__Full_ver._.mpg" -- it's "[CM - 2005.07.02] Akame - DDR with MARIO [Full ver.].mpg". That's just the way I name my files. Just rename it. =P

In what order do you list your files?

Chronological order, from earliest to latest . . . from when they took place, NOT when I put them up on my site. So if I update and say "one new KAT-TUN file", you will NOT see it at the start or end of the KAT-TUN section, but where ever it falls into on the date it was aired. Get me?

How do you write your dates?

I've opted to write it the way the Japanese write it . . . so, Year/Month/Day. However, on several files (mainly, if not only, KAT-TUN files) the dates aren't written that way . . . they're old files that were up on my k2k site (which I merged into this new idea to create Johnny's Pretty Boys). BUT, they are written that way on THIS SITE . . . just not the actual file you download, so if you're a picky perfectionist like me, I'd suggest when you download a file, keep this site open to reference the actual date. For instance, if you download a file and it's called "SC - 20.02.05 KAT-TUN" but on the site the date says "2005.02.20" -- that is the correct date and the date I mean . . . "20.02.05" is the way I personally write my dates, along with every other Australian. I do hope again that this does not confuse anyone. =P

Why are some files in parts?

Well, RapidShare only allows me to upload up to a maximum of 100MB per file, and as the album exceeds that, I had to seperate it into "Part 1", "Part 2" and so on. And that's it. =P

What program do I use to unzip those zip files?

WinZip or WinRAR.

Is there a difference between the files that are .zipped (.zip) and the files that are .rar'ed (.rar)?

YES. And this is very IMPORTANT. Files that are .zipped (usually singles and albums) can be unzipped by itself, meaning if you download, say, "KAT-TUN - Part 1.zip" you do NOT have to download "KAT-TUN - Part 2.zip" to unzip that file. Also, .zip files should NOT be password-protected.

However, ALL files that are .rar'ed ARE password-protected. And also, YOU WILL NEED ALL PARTS of the .rar file to unrar the file. Example: There are three files - "KAT-TUN - Part 1.part1.rar", "KAT-TUN - Part 1.part2.rar" and "KAT-TUN - Part 1.part3.rar". If you download only ONE of the three parts -- you will NOT be able to unrar it. You MUST download all parts of that particular file (in this case there are three but it can be more or less).

I'm confused. I don't know how to unrar the files in .rar parts that require me to unrar them into one sole file?

Please download all required parts of the file, double click on only one of them to unrar all of them with WinRAR. You do not need to unrar them one by one -- in fact, WinRAR shouldn't let you. Unraring one part file will unrar all part files -- assuming that they're all in the same folder . . . and all with identical file names, save for the "part1", "part2" and "part3" etc.. Then, when prompted by WinRAR, insert the password JPB (uppercase) and you should end up with ONE file that totals the MB all the part files combined total in. You can then delete the .rar part files and just keep the one sole file (which should end in .mpg or .avi).

Still confused?

1. Download all required parts of a file INTO THE SAME FOLDER (or after you've downloaded all required parts, place all parts in the same folder).
2. Double-click on ONE of the part files. WinRAR will prompt you for a password. It's JPB.
3. Insert password. Unrar. You will now have ONE SOLE FILE that you can view with ease. Delete the .rar part files as they're taking up space, and just keep the .mpg/.avi file.

Simple!

What's the password for your .RAR files in parts?

The password is and always will be: JPB (uppercase -- lowercase does not work).

What are the file properties for the media files?

All songs/singles/albums are in MP3 (MPEG Audio Layer 3) format, qualities ranging from 192kbps to 320kbps . . . they will be noted. Most clips/videos/promotional videos are in MPG (MPEG-1 Video) format with a resolution of 352x240, UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED! A few are in AVI (Audio Video Interleaved) format with various resolutions. JPB, as of late 2006/early 2007, is heading towards making all files AVI . . . Also, there are a few WMVs (Windows Media Videos) floating around.

What do I use to play the files?

A variety of things will play the files . . . but here are my highly recommended suggestions. =P For MP3 files, use Winamp 5.32. For MPG files, use BSplayer 2.12. You can also play AVI files on it too, just be sure to download the latest DivX and XviD codecs, and the latest AC3Filter decoder. But if you've ever wanted just ONE media player that plays EVERYTHING virtually without YOU ever having to download ANY codecs, because the codecs are ALREADY THERE -- you need VideoLAN (VLC)! It's pretty fugly -- but hey, it does its job! =P (I use it when BSplayer is being moody . . . but BSplayer is sooo much pwettier. :3) And if you're using Windows Media Player . . . Shame on you, really. =P IT IS TEH EVIL!!!11 UPDATE: JPB is trialing AVI files. To play these files, you will need to download and install both the DivX and XviD codecs.

You offer Shuji to Akira's/KAT-TUN's single and/or album in FLAC. What is FLAC?

FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec. Unlike MP3, where the quality is actually compressed, FLAC quality is "as is" -- the ultimate quality that can be achieved from the source, that is, CDDA. Because of its high quality, it requires a lot of space. One sole FLAC file is usually around 30MB. FLAC is recommended for those that are high on quality, with HDD space to spare.

So . . . how do I play FLAC files?

First, download and install the FLAC codec that you can find here. Done? Good. After you've installed that, what you download next will depend on the media player in which you wish to play FLAC on. If you use Windows Media Player, either download and install this or this. Either will do. If you use Winamp like yours truly, download and install the FLAC plugin found here. Your Windows Media Player and/or Winamp should now be able to play FLAC files with ease.

Can I re-distribute your media files?

It depends. The only files on my site I don't claim "ownership" over are the NEWS and Kanjani8 singles and albums. (The Shuji to Akira and KAT-TUN shit are mine; steal, and I shall attack you with toothpicks. =P) So, you may indeed take those NEWS and Kanjani8 singles/albums and UPLOAD THEM YOURSELF for your site (do not steal my RapidShare links . . .), since I only found them on P2P programs. I'd prefer it if you didn't actually "mirror" my site with those files though, by uploading ALL the singles/albums onto your site . . . 'cause it did take me quite some time to compile them all, and taking ALL of them to add to your site isn't very nice. :3

And here's my policy regarding everything else . . .

You cannot ever distribute my media files and/or my RapidShare links (KAT-TUN, Shuji to Akira, Other, as well as NEWS and Kanjani8 PVs) on your site. NEVER EVER. =P Just stick me in your links page . . . http://jpblove.org/ . . . There is an exception. You CAN re-distribute my media files and/or RapidShare links on MESSAGE BOARDS/FORUMS. BUT ONLY IF CREDIT IS GIVEN! For example, you can re-distribute my file (or RapidShare link to) "[PV] NEWS - Cherish.mpg" and then right after it, write something like this: "Credit: Johnny's Pretty Boys" or "Find more media at Johnny's Pretty Boys" . . . YES, YOU MUST LINK BACK! You cannot re-distribute my media files without linking back. It's only fair, ne? And please don't re-distribute a MASSIVE amount of files . . . you'd be better off just saying "Go to JPB for JE media" . . . ~_~ You can re-distribute a file or two on message boards/forums, but I'd really prefer if you didn't especially exceed like five files or links . . . And the reason why I'm allowing you to re-distribute my media links on message boards and forums in the first place is because the aim is to keep the links alive . . . if people keep downloading, they stay alive. =) BUT YOU MUST LINK BACK! =P Of course the reason of keeping the links alive is void if you upload the file yourself. =P But yes, you still must link back even if you upload it yourself . . . it's still my media file, afterall. o_o;

Hey! Some of your files don't have the JPB "tag" at the start. Does this mean it isn't yours?

No. Every video file (and live mp3 rip) on this site is my own re-encode/rip. I've only started to "tag" my files with JPB at the start from January '06, so a lot of files are still tagless. But they're still mine.

Didn't JPB have another URL?

Yes. JPB's first URL was je.regret-less.org. JPB Forum's first URL was je.regret-less.org/forum. Some files are still tagged with those URLs. But all files from now on will be tagged with JPB's new URLs.
